to bathe...or not to bathe

To all those moms out there who may or may not skip their children's baths (only sometimes) ...

Is my son going to be the stinky kid in school tomorrow b/c he played outside this afternoon and I (hrm, we) did not get around to bathing him tonight?

I've really been pretty strict about him bathing the night before school. (other nights, it just depends on if he smells or not...just kidding...sort of...it has been cold so we are outside less) But tonight it just did not happen. I am considering waking him up earlier (these days are already hard on our typically lazy mornings) just to stick him in some water--more for my peace of mind than anything. or wiping him down with a washcloth, or covering him in baby powder or lotion.

Point being, as this short post is boring anyone in college or without kids and horrifying the grandparents, I am just hoping that W. is not the smelly kid tomorrow.

American Idol

Some of you may know this about our family, but we love American Idol.

It started with Wil's family watching it (i got to go with them when Reuben won and the concert came to Bham...amazing), then Taylor Hicks (he won 2 years ago) sang at our wedding party (it was like mood music, so I didn't even know he was there until Brooke noticed and it was confirmed by a picture). So now, it is our "family show" although Wiley only lasts about 10 minutes. He does like dancing to the intro.

So because of our love for Idol, I thought I might blog about it and get you interested. Here are a few thoughts on this season thus far; maybe I will get Wil to share thoughts too at some point.

The Judges:
-Kara...I really dislike the dynamic of the 4th judge. The commentary takes too long and we end up fast forwarding through it.
-Simon...How I love Simon. He makes me want to move to London. Surprising, right? Since he's so mean, but I think he is really nice inside and has to be tough b/c nooone else is. It completes the dynamic that Kara has messed up.
-Not that I don't like Kara as a person, but every since she had a sing-off with Bikini Girl during auditions, I've had trouble getting on that bandwagon. (youtube american idol 2009 and bikini girl video comes up)
-Paula...Wil says that her contract is up after this year and that she might not be coming back (I don't know where he hears these things since I don't know anyone other than his family that watches Idol) b/c she doesn't like the 4 judge panel. I have taken her for granted and after hearing this, I am trying to appreciate her, even when she appears drunk and falls out of her chair (last season). She is sweet and the contestants love her, esp. when she gets up and starts dancing.
-Randy...Yo Dawg...you have to get rid of the red lensed glasses.

The Contestants:
Who is going to go far: Scott MacIntyre, Lil Rounds, Danny Gokey (all amazing voices with amazing stories)
Who does not need to get past Wild Card Round: Tatiana. I cannot deal with the drama another week. I feel strongly about this one.
Who does need to go past Wild Card Round: ANOOP! from Chapel Hill. There was fist pumping after he got into WIld Card Round last night. And he wears his wallabees on AI. How fratty of him!
Who I really like and she might go far too: Alexis Grace (we could bond over how people tell us how young we are to have a child.) She is the tiniest person with the biggest voice!

So, if you have watched Idol before or you have never watched it, you should tune in tonight (Fox at 8/7c). If you hate it, fine, but at least you get to see Tatiana in action. You'll thank me (not really) later.

Snow

It snowed on Sunday night...A LOT...Eli and I likened it to the infamous blizzard of '93...it wasn't really close...but we did have a tree with its limbs bent down. We had a pancake party that morning too, which was quite fun! We still have snow on the ground and it kinda looks like we are in a northern city because the snow is pushed to the side of the road and it is dirty. Usually it is not around long enough to be dirty or still on the side of the road. I think the news said we got 5"! While a snow is fun, the cold is not and I am officially ready for spring. And I think my boys' are too considering from the pictures, neither of them can find 2 gloves, or any gloves at all. I think that they are all with Wil's glasses which have been missing for quite a while now. (W. likes to put gloves, socks on his hands, hence we cannot find them when we need them.)

Flashback Friday: What I was doing 4, 3, 2, 1 year(s) ago

While I thought it would be fun to "flashback" 3 years ago when I was pregnant (I think it was because I was with my preggo friend tonight), after reviewing pictures I have decided that I don't particularly want to stare a 50 pound weight gain in the face or share those pictures with you, although some of you might have been 'lucky' enough to have been around to witness my love of WingZone and lack of exercise. You think I exaggerate. I don't.

So on a less heavy note, I thought I'd share mostly pictures of Wiley from each year. Just for fun to see how he has grown and what we were up to. I'll add in a few humiliating pictures as well just to you know--embarrass myself.

Waiting...

It has been awhile since I posted anything...I guess not much has been happening here that I think is blogworthy. We are potty training at a lackluster pace, although Ws teachers think that he is completely potty trained at school. I sort of realized today that when he is potty trained that when he has to go he has to go. Regardless of where we are. I know. That was pretty dumb of me. So, again, not sure we are ready. I am not nearly as committed as I need to be.

In other news...We had a nice trip down south this past weekend. I met a fellow blogger in real life which is always exciting. She has inspired me to look for bike seats for W. (Wal Mart is leading the race with the Bell seat, which unfortunately is only up to 40 lbs, but I figured it would last for the rest of the spring).

While there, I got a MacBook for graduation from Wil's parents! I was so excited! It has also made me feel old (technology-wise) as I am not sure what I am doing on here. I need to switch my pictures to this computer. Should I use Picasa like I was (so I can save online) or should I use iPhoto? Any suggestions or tips on transferring stuff? I feel slightly sleeker when I use this computer--almost like Sarah Jessica Parker in SATC when she is typing her articles. Only I type about potty training and she types about....

Speaking of writing, I also have received 2 new pieces of fine literature...The Strong Willed Child by Dr. Dobson and Your Three Year Old: Friend or Enemy. I will let you know how those work out. I'm not sure they will be my beach reading of choice during spring break, but who knows!

I would post a picture, but as I said before they are on the other computer right now. In the meantime, please send me any tips for this changing of the guard, I mean, computers.

So, in regards to the Title... Things we are waiting on...
- potty training commitment
- warm weather
- daffodils blooming on campus so that I can have free fresh flowers in my house (what? my tuition helped pay for those bulbs!)
- picnics and bike rides (complete with child on back) in aforementioned warm weather
- spring break
- how to work a Mac
- where in the world (literally) we will be next year, and by next year, I mean this summer. As in June.

I don't like waiting. Bottom line. So this is a really super exercise in patience particularly regarding the last one. I can wait on daffodils, I know they are coming b/c I saw them down south.

So, I remain waiting...
